Professional Experience

Fernando Peláez-Pier joined Hoet Peláez Castillo & Duque in 1977. He is an active participant in the development of the Firm and contributes to its strategic management. Fernando is also a recognized member of the international legal community.

Being an expert in foreign investments, mergers and acquisitions, and negotiations of contracts and financing, Fernando has been able to provide assistance to renowned international corporations from all over the world to be set up in Venezuela or to finance industrial projects. Fernando’s career has been both interesting and

exceptional.

He is one of the pioneers of advocacy’s global projection around the world, being the Founder and Chair of the Latin American Regional Forum  of  the  International  Bar  Association  (IBA),  as  well  as President  of  the  IBA  (2009-2010),  Vice  President  (2007-2008), Secretary  General  (2005-2006),  Chair  of  the  IBA’s  Section  on Business Law (SBL) (2002-2004), SBL Vice Chair (2000-2002), and SBL Secretary Treasurer (1998/2000). He was also the Chairman of the  Federation  of  Binational  Chambers  of  Commerce  of  the European  Community  (FEDEUROPA)  from  1981  to  1982,  and Chairman of Lex Mundi from 1992 to 1993.

 

Prior to joining the Firm, Fernando was in charge of the creation of the London office and Director of the European Offices located in Paris and London for Bomchil Castro Goodrich Claro Arosemena & Associates, from 1972 to  1976.  He  was  also  an  associate  in  Goodrich  Riquelme  &

Associates in  Mexico City from 1967  to  1972. As a  member of several international organizations, his work and enthusiasm have been an important and constant contribution to the development of the international law community.

In addition to his responsibilities in the Firm, since 2013, Fernando Peláez-Pier has been providing consultancy services on law firm management with special focus on succession planning, partners’ remuneration, and strategic planning.

Fernando Peláez-Pier has participated as lecturer in mutiple conferences on different topics, such as mergers and acquisitions, banking, anti-corruption, arbitration, and firm management organized by The International Bar Association (IBA) and the American Bar Association.
